HSMI challenge model
VESO Vikan has together with the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science established a new HSMI challenge model. Significant effort has been made to understand the infectious dynamics of piscine reovirus (PRV) and development of HSMI. The virus was recently found to infect red blood cells, and very high levels can be found at early stages of infection. VESO Vikan has established a sea water cohabitation model where high viral loads (up to 90 mill copies) can be found after challenge by cohabitation, followed by significant histopathological changes.
