Piscine reovirus

Rogn

Piscine reovirus (PRV) is a recently identified virus associated with heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI).

Salmon for experimental trials in the laboratory or field are produced at VESO's hatchery. This ensures high quality in every step of the production. The fish are routinely screened for presence of antibodies against several bacteria and IPNV. In 2011, VESO also started screening for Piscine reovirus (PRV). The virus is so far not detected by RT-qPCR, and histopathological analysis show no sign of HSMI.
